| NorthWinds Church provides an opportunity for all people to be Accepted, Connected and Transformed (A.C.T.) through the Truth of Jesus Christ.
At NorthWinds you will
find people like you. Some of us call ourselves followers of Jesus,
some have never been in a church, some left the church a long time ago.
But we're all seeking deeper meaning in our lives and finding it in the
life of Jesus.
NorthWinds Church started in our homes. We have worshiped in parks and
campgrounds as well, growing in the understanding of who Jesus is and
what He wants us to become. Join us at nwc where the Spirit supercedes
manmade rules and traditions, where you can be a part of the vision and
future of NorthWinds Church.
We are now meeting at 8601 Kentucky Avenue, off of US 41 at Mt.
Pleasant Road, in the "41 North Business Park" at 10 am each Sunday
morning. The most important element to us is that nwc is all about
Jesus.
In an effort to be like Jesus, nwc is:
Nurturing:
The society that Jesus
lived in was really no different than our society today because some
people were racist. Under the law at that time, Jewish men were
expected not to associate with Samaritans. As Jesus was strollin’
through the town of Samaria one day, He began talking to a Samaritan
woman. Wait a minute – a Jewish man speaking with a Samaritan
woman? Not only was this woman a Samaritan, she had been divorced 5
times and was now livin’ with a new man. You don't have to
believe me, check out John 4. This interracial conversation led to a
life-changing relationship because Jesus nurtured and loved the woman
regardless of gender, race, divorce or social history.
Obedient:
Have you ever noticed
that many parents decorate their baby’s room with Noah’s
ark accessories? Have you ever wondered why? For the cute animals or
the awesome story? Noah was an obedient dude. I bet Noah’s
neighbors thought he was psycho when he was building the huge ark. God
protected Noah and his family because Noah followed God’s
instructions. At nwc, we just keep followin’ His lead.
Relational:
Jesus accepts and connects to all
kinds of people, but He himself is not always socially accepted. He
went to a wedding and turned water into wine. He ate with anybody
– have you heard about the dinner at Levi’s house? Jesus
hung out with so many different kinds of people that the "religious"
individuals of the day judged Him. You gotta read Matt 11:19 and Luke
7:34 b/c Jesus says that He was accused of being a glutton, drunkard,
friend of tax collectors, etc. At nwc, we're not about "religion", but
we're all about Jesus.
Transforming:
Saul was a Jesus-basher. He
threatened to murder and imprison those who believed in Jesus. But one
day, Saul was transformed when he met Jesus. Jesus asked, ?Saul, Saul,
why do you persecute me?" (Notice: Jesus does not play mind games. He
was kind and direct when he confronted Saul). A couple days later, Saul
was baptized and became a preacher. If you would like more info, see
Acts 9. From Jesus-basher to Jesus-preacher: major transformation. He
even changed his name to Paul.
Healing:
We all have issues in our life. It
may be that we've had a dysfunctional childhood, been abused or raped,
lost a close loved one, experienced a divorce, have a drug addiction,
have an illness, etc. With the help of Jesus, you can be healed. In
Mark 10, Jesus tells the blind man that his faith healed him. Put your
faith in Jesus.
Worshiping:
To many, the word "worship" sounds
a little churchy or religious. At nwc, we want worship to be redefined
as unconventional, genuine, true and very much alive! Beginning with
Jesus’ birth, the wisemen came to worship Jesus in Matthew 2. We
think of worship as our expression of love to Jesus.
Innovative:
Jesus is a cool, creative guy who
does extraordinary things. The most awesome thing Jesus provides to the
believer is freedom. Romans 10:4 says, "Christ is the end of the law so
that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes." No more
legalistic, manmade rules or self-serving traditions. Jesus Christ
equals freedom and that takes innovation to a new, deeper level.
Neighboring:
All people matter to Jesus. John
3:16 says that God loved the world. The whole world. In fact, Jesus
directs us to go to all nations in Matthew 28:19. Jesus demonstrated
through His life that He loved and hung out with a diversity of people.
nwc is committed to telling the whole world about Jesus.
Developing:
Jesus was God in the form of man.
He is so amazing, yet was also a person. A guy by the name of James was
the half-brother of Jesus. Can you even imagine being the half-brother
of God’s Son? James developed into a major leader in the
Jerusalem church. James teaches that it is easy to say we have faith,
but true faith inspires us to A.C.T. If you want more info, you can
read James 2. We pray that Jesus continues to develop true, genuine
faith at nwc.
Sacrificial:
Jesus is the ultimate sacrifice.
This is the coolest story of all. So that we may continue to live after
we physically die, God sent His Son, Jesus. Jesus had nails driven
through His hands, He was hammered to a cross and hung there for many
hours. As Jesus was hanging on the cross, He said, "Father, forgive
them, for they do not know what they are doing" (Luke 23). Cool stuff
– Jesus even loved those who killed his physical body.
Jesus’ last words were, "It is finished" (John 19). What was finished? The opportunity for all people to live in God’s Disneyland (a/k/a heaven). Three
days later, Jesus rose from the grave and went to heaven (we now
celebrate this as Easter)! If you believe this story, ask Him for
forgiveness, accept Jesus and acknowledge that He Rules, you will live
in God’s Disneyland forever after you physically die. See Romans
10:9-13 and John 14:6 for more info.
